On a sweltering summer morning in 1892, in a small New England city, a prominent businessman and his wife were brutally axed to death in their home. Their daughter Lizzie Borden was the prime suspect. Lizzie’s trial was a coast-to-coast media sensation, and her story has become an American legend.

LIZZIE is four women fronting a six-piece rock band. LIZZIE, an American mythology set to a blistering rock score, is rage, sex, betrayal, and bloody murder!
THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE AUDITIONING
Forge Light Theatreworks will be producing Lizzie at The People's Building in Aurora. This will be the closing production of our inaugural season! We will be announcing our 2022 season on the opening night of this production. We are looking for an all-female artistic/production team.
In keeping with Forge Light Theatreworks' commitment to equitable casting, Forge Light reserves the right to not announce casting until we have a cast representative of ALL people in our community. We are seeking Disabled and Non-Disabled Black, API, Indigenous, Latinx, MENASA, White, and Multi-Racial performers of all types for this production. We are looking for women and non-binary performers (who are willing to present as female for the production) whose vocal ranges match the character ranges listed below. The show contains multiple styles of rock music so all performers need to be comfortable singing rock music.
Self-Taped Auditions: We will start accepting video auditions on Monday, August 9, 2021.
In-Person Auditions: We will hold limited in-person auditions on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 6:30p - 9:30p.
Self-Taped Auditions Closed: We will stop accepting video auditions Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 9:30p.
Callbacks: We will be holding callbacks on August 15, 2021, from 11:00a-1:00p.

What to Prepare: Please prepare one song in the style of the show (16-32 Bars) (An accompanist will be provided for the in-person audition. Artists will be responsible for their own accompaniment if they choose self-taped auditions). FLT maintains a paperless and contactless audition process, please attach a headshot, resume, AND sheet music along with the electronic audition form.
Pay: All Performing Artists are paid $20 per performance.
AEA: Non-Equity contracts only.
Role Availability: There are NO (0) roles precast in this production.
Forge Light Theatreworks' rehearsals for Lizzie will run for 4 weeks.
The rehearsal location is COMING SOON.
A read-through and contracts/policy review will be on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
List any conflicts from Tuesday, August 31, 2021, to Sunday, October 31, 2021.
Lizzie will load into The People's Building on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
Full technical rehearsals start on October 4, 2021. (Plan for some late evenings)
Lizzie will open on October 8, 2021, and close on October 31, 2021. (15 Performances)

Conflicts from October 3, 2021, to October 31, 2021, will not be considered.
This production will contain a good deal of stylized violence. Though not all actors may be involved in the violence, it is likely all actors will be on stage during the violence. Additionally, there is a description of the intimacy and violence required for each role, actors will have the opportunity to opt into/out of roles during the audition process based on their level of comfort with the required intimacy and violence.
Lizzie Borden (20s-30s) high belt: (F#3-F#5 (belt to A5 if possible): Lizzie is the youngest daughter of the Borden’s who is accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe. She is simultaneously fragile, broken, tender and strong, powerful, manipulative, conniving, sinister, furious.
Violence required: Lizzie will commit an axe murder on stage. She will end up covered in blood. She will also handle decapitated pigeons and plan a poisoning.
Intimacy required: Lizzie has an intimate relationship with Alice. She will engage in intimate (sexual and non-sexual) touching and she and Alice kiss. Possible sisterly intimacy with Emma.
Alice Russell (20s-30s) high mezzo lyric/mix/belt: G3 (w/F#3 pick up/ghost notes in one number) - A5 legit soprano: Alice is Lizzie’s next-door neighbor and friend. She and Lizzie have a blossoming relationship in the show. She’s seductive, secretive, and sweet.
Violence required: Alice may participate in some of the violence depending on staging. She will likely be on stage for the axe murder and with the decapitated pigeons.
Intimacy required: Alice has an intimate relationship with Lizzie. She will engage in intimate (sexual and non-sexual) touching and she and Lizzie kiss.
Emma Borden (20s-40s) alto/mezzo belt: F#3-D5: Lizzie’s older sister. Hate’s his father’s second wife. Lizzie’s accomplice, though she does not take part in the actual murder. Protective of Lizzie, outspoken and sad.
Violence required: Emma may participate in some of the violence depending on staging. She will likely be on stage for the axe murder.
Intimacy required: Possible sisterly intimacy with Lizzie.
Bridget Sullivan (30s-50s) contralto/low alto: F3 (w/E3 pick-up/ghost notes in one number) - Eb5 (E5 optional in one ad-lib): Bridget is the long-time maid of the Borden family. Speaks and sings in an Irish accent. Clever and dry with a dark sense of humor. Nothing gets past her.
Violence required: Bridget may participate in some of the violence depending on staging. She will likely be on stage for the axe murder.
Intimacy Required: None.
